The unusual term "Darkheart" was selected as the name of this business not just to serve as a demonstrably highly effective marketing catchphrase in the competitive world of ecological consulting, but to define our terms of professional practice and performance.
"Darkheart" is a slang term given to someone who is single-minded in achieving a set objective, and achieves that objective impervious to undue influence from external pressures. Similarly, the performance and credibility of a consulting ecologist is a function of their personal ethics, subject most of all to the influences of the clients expectations of a pre-determined outcome, as well financial and political ramifications of a proposal, and the associated legislative requirements. This nexus of market forces, personalities and social interactions produces a spectrum of consultants with varying professional ethics and practices, as commonly demonstrated by costly (and often unnecessary) Land and Environment Court cases, and projects viewed with the clarity of hindsight with regret for poor planning and advice; to projects hailed as landmarks in foresight and ecological sustainable development practice, and providing a mutual benefit to the client, community and the environment. The latter is the kind of projects Darkheart Eco is associated with. This is because our professional philosophy is to be "darkhearted" ie to perform our job scientifically, professionally and thoroughly according to the appropriate legislative requirements and principles of Ecological Sustainable Development, without undue influence from the aforementioned forces. This places Darkheart Eco in the middle of the formerly defined spectrum, and results in ecological assessments of the highest calibre resilient to scrutiny or challenge, thereby providing our clients with the service they expect.
Reflected in our list of representative projects subsequently provided on this website, this attitude and philosophy has earned significant respect and credibility in both the professional and academic worlds, and in the community, establishing this firm's dominance on the Mid North Coast of NSW, our speciality area.
